About fyistats

Romania's official statistics, republished unchanged — so a figure can be quoted with the same confidence as the source it came from

What this is

fyistats brings Romania's official statistics into one place and one shape. The institutions publish them already, in a dozen formats across as many portals; this site fetches them, stores each figure with the period it refers to, draws the charts, and links every number back to where it came from. It also catalogues everything the national open-data portal publishes, including the material that is not statistics at all — registries, reports, map layers — so that a search here can say the thing exists even where we hold no figures for it.

Both halves are searchable together. What is current, source by source, is on the sources page — that table is measured, not estimated.

How a figure gets here

Every source is read through its own published interface — an API, a data portal, a machine-readable feed — and never by copying a number off a page. What arrives is stored exactly as published: not rounded, not rescaled, not converted, not gap-filled. Where a source publishes a cumulative total or covers only part of a subject, the chart's title says so rather than the figure being quietly adjusted to look like something else.

Nothing is overwritten. Every fetch is kept, so a figure that a publisher later revises does not erase the version we held before it — which is what makes it possible to say when a number changed, and not only that it did.

Where a source contradicts itself — a month republished under the next month's name, a county spelled three ways, a file that is not the table its name claims — the contradiction is recorded and reported, and the source's own value is published. Guessing which version was intended would mean inventing a figure, which is the one thing this site must never do.

What this site does not do

Who is responsible

An independent project, created and run privately, not by an institution. It is not administered, supported or funded by any of the organisations whose data it holds, and it accepts no financial resources from them. Stating this is a condition of the licence the data is republished under, not self-praise.

If something here is wrong

Write, and it will be looked at. If a figure here disagrees with its publisher, the publisher is right and this is a bug on this site — that is what “republished, never restated” means, and a mistake reported is the fastest way to keep it true.
